Florin Tanase set to join Omonia Nicosia

Romanian attacking midfielder Florin Tanase is reportedly nearing a transfer to the Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia. The 31-year-old player is set to depart from FCSB (Steaua Bucharest) as a free agent, a move confirmed by the Romanian club's owner, Gigi Becali. Although Tanase had two years remaining on his contract, a special clause allowed him to leave the club without a transfer fee at any time during the season.

The transfer follows a period of internal tension at FCSB, during which Tanase was excluded from a training session following a disagreement with coach Lucian Filip and subsequently dropped from the match squad against UTA Arad. Tanase, who previously played for Al Jazira and has a decorated history with 106 goals and 56 assists in 329 appearances for the Romanian side, is expected to continue his career in Cyprus. While Romanian media outlets including Digi Sport and Fanatik link him specifically to Omonia, Becali noted that he is aware of the player’s move to Cyprus but did not explicitly name the destination club.
