Pavlos Kontides concludes World Sailing Championship in 28th place

Cypriot sailor Pavlos Kontides concluded his campaign at the World Sailing Championship in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland, finishing 28th in the overall standings. The event, which took place throughout August 2026, saw Kontides struggle during the final series, eventually accumulating 180 penalty points after completing all scheduled races.

Kontides began the tournament with strong potential, holding 13th place after the initial qualifying series, where he secured two race wins and maintained consistent placements. However, his performance declined during the final gold fleet races, where he recorded results including 23rd, 31st, 33rd, 44th, 16th, and 22nd positions. In his final race on Sunday, August 30, he finished 29th, failing to qualify for the medal races reserved for the top ten sailors.

The championship victory was contested among the world's top competitors, with Ryan Lo from Singapore leading the standings. For Kontides, an athlete from the Limassol Nautical Club, this event marked his final major competition of the 2026 season.
