Rescue operation underway after ship capsizes off the coast of Kyrenia

The Republic of Cyprus, through the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC), has expressed its immediate readiness to intervene and provide assistance. The government has utilized the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) as a conduit to relay its offer of support to the Turkish Cypriot side. Furthermore, the President of the Republic has instructed the Greek Cypriot negotiator to initiate contact with the Turkish Cypriot leader to emphasize that Nicosia is prepared to deploy all necessary aeronautical assets to save lives. The administration maintains that humanitarian protection remains its absolute priority in such emergency situations, offering both operational capability and immediate deployment of resources should the request be accepted.
