Shipwreck of Filo Jet ferry off Kyrenia leads to casualties and criminal investigation

On Sunday, August 30, 2026, the catamaran Filo Jet capsized and sank approximately four nautical miles off the coast of Kyrenia in the northern part of Cyprus. The vessel, which was en route to Tasucu, Turkey, sank to a depth of 514 meters. The maritime disaster has resulted in at least eight confirmed deaths, with 18 people still reported missing.
