AKEL party leadership visits Kormakitis and Karpasha villages

On August 30, 2026, the leadership of the AKEL party, headed by General Secretary Stefanos Stefanou, attended the inaugural Carob Festival in the village of Kormakitis. The event was organized by the Association of Resettled Maronites and aimed to highlight the challenges faced by the Maronite community living in the occupied areas of Cyprus.

During the visit, Stefanou emphasized the party's ongoing support for the Maronite community, which he described as an integral part of the Cypriot people. He stated that the party continues to advocate for a solution to the Cyprus problem that would end the Turkish occupation and facilitate the reunification of the country, ensuring lasting peace and security. In addition to the festival, the AKEL delegation visited the village of Karpasha, where they met with local residents and the Representative of the Maronite Community, Petros Nakouzis, to discuss the difficult living conditions created by the ongoing occupation.

This visit serves as a symbolic gesture of solidarity with the Maronites who are striving to maintain their presence in their ancestral homes. The party reiterated its commitment to pursuing diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a unified, prosperous, and peaceful future for all residents of Cyprus.
