AS Monaco basketball club excluded from French professional leagues

On August 30, 2026, the French Basketball Federation (FFBB) made a final decision to exclude AS Monaco from the Betclic ELITE and ELITE 2 leagues. This outcome followed the French National Olympic and Sports Committee's (CNOSF) refusal to re-examine the case, despite the club's efforts to present a new, sustainable financial model with a budget of 6-7 million euros.

The conflict originated in early July 2026, when the National League’s financial supervisory body initially barred the club from professional competition due to unresolved fiscal issues. Although the 2025 EuroLeague finalists sought to challenge the decision by submitting evidence of a new investor and improved financial standing, the FFBB maintained its strict regulatory stance. The club, having addressed previous debt, is now facing removal from the professional basketball system.

Currently, the club reports it does not plan to appeal the decision to an administrative court at this time, though the option remains available. The rejection of the appeal process marks a significant setback for the team, which will now be forced to operate outside of the top French professional tiers for the upcoming season.
