Infant found dead in Airbnb apartment in Athens

Greek police discovered the body of an infant inside a container stored in a suitcase at an Airbnb apartment in the Kypseli neighborhood of Athens on August 30, 2026. The investigation began after the property owner reported that tenants were refusing to vacate the premises, failing to pay rent, and allegedly using illegal drugs. Officers found a 43-year-old Greek man, his 28-year-old German wife, his 15-year-old daughter, two sons aged 12 and 9, and the 15-year-old’s 26-year-old Afghan partner on the scene. Illegal substances were discovered in the possession of the 15-year-old girl during the police intervention.

The 28-year-old woman claimed the infant was her own and had died eight months ago. However, forensic examinations have since identified suspicious marks on the body, leading authorities to investigate the death as a potential criminal act. Officials are currently awaiting further forensic reports to determine the exact cause of death and whether the remains belong to a fully developed infant or a fetus. Additionally, it has been reported that both the 28-year-old woman and her 15-year-old daughter are currently pregnant. The suspects face potential charges related to the failure to report a death, as well as drug-related offenses.
