Infant found murdered in Kypseli apartment

On August 30, 2026, police discovered the remains of an infant inside a container hidden within a suitcase in an Airbnb apartment in the Kypseli neighborhood of Athens. The discovery occurred after the property owner reported that the tenants, who were failing to pay rent and allegedly using drugs, refused to vacate the premises. Found inside the apartment were a 43-year-old Greek man, a 38-year-old German woman, their three children (a 15-year-old girl and two boys, aged 9 and 12), and the 15-year-old’s 26-year-old Afghan boyfriend.

Forensic examinations revealed that the infant died from at least ten stab wounds to the back. The three adults have been arrested, initially facing charges of failing to report a death and drug trafficking, with a homicide case currently being formed. The 43-year-old suspect provided incoherent statements, alleging that the infant was not his biological child and labeling the baby 'satanic.

Authorities have transferred the three minor children to the 'Agia Sofia' Children’s Hospital, where medical examinations found signs suggesting potential sexual abuse and diagnosed some with syphilis. Police continue to investigate the family’s background, including their previous residence in Fyli, while the suspects have been referred to an investigator to provide testimony.
