Michalis Persianis appointed to DISY shadow cabinet

On August 31, 2026, the President of the Democratic Rally (DISY), Annita Demetriou, announced the appointment of Michalis Persianis as the head of the Horizontal Portfolio for Resilience and Development within the party's Government Oversight Council, often referred to as a shadow cabinet.

Persianis, the former head of the Fiscal Council, will be responsible for evaluating policies related to Cyprus's long-term economic resilience, including fiscal responsibility, productivity, competitiveness, and structural reforms. This role is designed to collaborate with all other portfolios within the council to integrate sustainable development across the party's policy proposals. The oversight body features two other horizontal portfolios: Public Sector Efficiency, led by Michalis Ioannidis, and Transparency, led by Tziortzia Panagiotou.

Demetriou stated that the inclusion of Persianis aims to enhance the council's technical capabilities, emphasizing the need for a developmental model capable of responding to future crises. The appointment follows the party's strategic goal of strengthening its monitoring of government actions through data-driven and technocratic policy proposals.
