President Christodoulides meets with OEB to discuss economic reforms and growth

President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides met with the Executive Committee of the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) at the Presidential Palace on August 31, 2026. The discussion focused on the government's ongoing reform agenda, emphasizing the modernization of the state and the role of the private sector as a key partner in achieving national economic goals.

During the meeting, the President highlighted that the Cypriot economy is projected to reach a growth rate of 3.5% in 2026. He cited recent data from the Statistical Service, noting that employment levels have reached historic highs since the survey began in 1999, while unemployment, particularly among youth, has returned to levels last seen in 2008. Key legislative efforts discussed included the completed tax reform, which aims to boost disposable income for households and businesses, and the ongoing pension reform. The latter seeks to improve current pension adequacy while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the Social Insurance Fund.

President Christodoulides reaffirmed the government's commitment to continuing its bold reform path despite prevailing global geopolitical and economic challenges. The dialogue underscored the state's reliance on close cooperation with the business community to maintain the current trajectory of economic stability and growth.
