Spanish PM addresses Ceuta migrant surge and disinformation claims

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated on August 31, 2026, that an investigation is ongoing regarding the sudden surge of over 72,000 migrants who arrived in the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco between July 30 and July 31.

During an interview with Cadena Ser, Sanchez addressed reports circulating on social media, attributing the spread of rumors and disinformation to a "far-right international" network, alongside entities linked to Russia and Israel. He emphasized that these actors exploit the migration issue to divide Europe and attack Spain. The Prime Minister explicitly cleared Moroccan authorities of any involvement in the incident, noting that no intelligence services collaborating with Madrid have provided evidence of Moroccan state participation.
