Religious services to be held at Saint Mamas Cathedral in Morphou
The Holy Metropolis of Morphou and the Ecclesiastical Committee have announced a series of religious services to be held at the Saint Mamas Cathedral in the occupied town of Morphou. The events are scheduled to celebrate the feast day of Saint Mamas, the patron saint of the town.
On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., the Great Hierarchical Vespers will be officiated by Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou. On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 6:15 a.m., Metropolitan Neophytos will lead the Orthros and the Divine Liturgy. A special supplication service to the Chrysosotira of Akanthou and Saint Mamas will follow later that day at 4:00 p.m.
During these events, the faithful will have the opportunity to venerate the miraculous icon of Chrysosotira of Akanthou, which is currently housed in the Saint Mamas Cathedral. Additionally, believers can receive holy oil from the saint's sarcophagus. Participants have been encouraged to prepare for Holy Communion and are invited to bring kolyva and loaves for the feast.
