Recent fire incidents reported in Cape Greco and Drouseia

Two separate fire incidents occurred recently in Cyprus, starting with a reported outbreak on August 31, 2026, at Cavo Greco. At approximately 10:37, two fires were detected along the road from the Sea Caves to the Cavo Greco Environmental Information Centre. Passing citizens successfully extinguished both blazes before they could spread. The Forestry Department and Fire Service secured the area and launched an investigation, noting that arson has not been ruled out as a potential cause.

Subsequently, on September 2, 2026, another forest fire broke out at 12:05 in the Laona locality of Drouseia, in the Paphos district. This fire was brought under full control by 13:00 after consuming four decares of low wild vegetation. The operation involved seven personnel from the Forestry Department and four from the Fire Service, utilizing three fire engines in total. While air support was initially requested, it was ultimately deemed unnecessary as ground crews contained the fire. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the start of the blaze in Drouseia.
