Two fire outbreaks extinguished at Cavo Greco

On August 31, 2026, two fire outbreaks occurred along the road connecting Thalassines Spilies to the Cavo Greco Environmental Information Centre. The Department of Forestry was alerted to the situation at 10:37 a.m. and dispatched teams to the scene, along with the Fire Service.

Before professional emergency responders could arrive, passing citizens discovered the fires and managed to extinguish them, preventing any further spread. The Forestry Department expressed its appreciation for the immediate actions of these individuals. Upon arrival, the fire and forestry crews secured the area to ensure the flames were fully suppressed.

Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fires. According to spokesperson Glavkos Kyriakou, the possibility of malicious intent has not been ruled out. The Department of Forestry remains on alert and continues to monitor the location as the investigation proceeds.
