Former Assistant Attorney General of Cyprus referred to criminal court

Loukis G. Loukaidis, a former Assistant Attorney General of Cyprus and former judge at the European Court of Human Rights, has been referred to the Limassol Criminal Court. The case stems from a complaint filed on July 25, 2025, by the administrator of a deceased person's estate regarding €177,108.12 in expropriation compensation.

The allegations concern property in Limassol that was expropriated by the Limassol Municipality. According to the complaint, Mr. Loukaidis, acting as a lawyer, received the compensation funds from the municipality between 2014 and 2015 but allegedly failed to distribute or transfer them to the estate. Following a police investigation and review by the Legal Service, official instructions were issued on August 26, 2026, to initiate criminal proceedings.

While the specific nature of the charges remains undisclosed, the case has been officially registered. Mr. Loukaidis has denied any criminal wrongdoing, characterizing the prosecution as malicious. The Limassol Criminal Court is scheduled to hear the case on September 14, 2026, marking a transition from the investigative phase to formal judicial proceedings.
