Former deputy attorney general referred to criminal court in Limassol

Loukis G. Loukaidis, a former Deputy Attorney General of Cyprus and former judge at the European Court of Human Rights, has been referred to the Permanent Criminal Court of Limassol. The legal proceedings concern allegations of misappropriating funds amounting to €177,108.12, which were paid as compensation for the expropriation of a deceased person's property.

The case stems from a complaint filed on July 25, 2025, by the estate administrator. Investigations suggest that while acting as a lawyer in 2014 and 2015, Loukaidis allegedly collected this sum from the Municipality of Limassol but failed to transfer the money to the estate. Following a review of the evidence by the Legal Service, official instructions for prosecution were issued on August 26, 2026. The Limassol Criminal Court is scheduled to hear the matter starting September 14, 2026.

In response to the charges, Loukaidis has publicly rejected the criminal nature of the proceedings, characterizing the prosecution as malicious and alleging the existence of a conspiracy against him. He maintains that he has committed no criminal offense throughout the process.
