Cypriot police staff member awarded British Empire Medal for child protection work

Andri Nikolaou, a Cypriot national serving as a civilian staff member for the Avon and Somerset Police in the United Kingdom, has been selected to receive the British Empire Medal (BEM) from King Charles III. This prestigious honour recognises her long-standing commitment and exceptional contributions to the prevention and mitigation of child exploitation.

Since joining the force in 2004 and specifically throughout the last eight years in her role as a child exploitation prevention coordinator, Nikolaou has pioneered several initiatives. Her educational outreach has been highly impactful, reaching over 21,000 individuals, including children, parents, and professionals, within a single year. She conducts sessions on critical safety issues, such as sexual and criminal exploitation, human trafficking, "county lines" drug distribution, violence against women and girls, knife crime, and online safety.

Originally from Cyprus and a resident of the UK since 2003, Nikolaou's work is now widely regarded as a national benchmark for best practices in the field. Her ongoing efforts continue to focus on the protection and empowerment of young people through awareness and proactive preventive strategies.
