Renewable energy in Cyprus: Who produces, who sells, and who sets the price

This article analyzes Cyprus’s solar energy production data to clarify market dynamics amid proposals to revise solar sales agreements. Official data from 2026 indicates that small-scale residential systems, totaling over 102,000 installations, account for approximately 74.5% of solar output, significantly outperforming the 254 large-scale commercial parks. While large-scale parks participate directly in the wholesale market and face higher curtailment risks, small-scale systems operate under net-metering and net-billing arrangements, playing a crucial role in the national energy supply.
