Stelios Philanthropic Foundation provides financial aid to ferry tragedy victims

On August 30, 2026, a ferry sank off the northern coast of Cyprus, resulting in a tragic loss of life. Authorities have confirmed eight deaths, while 18 individuals remain missing, bringing the total number of affected families to 26.

In response to the incident, the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, led by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, announced a total of €260,000 in immediate financial support. The foundation will provide a payment of €10,000 to the next of kin of each victim, including those currently reported as missing, provided they are confirmed dead within one month of the incident. The financial assistance is intended to provide immediate relief to those mourning or awaiting news of their loved ones.

To facilitate the distribution, the foundation has stated that the payments will be made via bank transfer to the closest living relative, up to the second degree of kinship. Claimants are required to submit an application along with supporting documentation to receive the aid.
