Cyprus establishes national framework for compliance with the EU AI Act

Cyprus is currently developing a national framework to implement and oversee the European Union’s AI Act, transitioning from theoretical considerations to practical business requirements. This initiative aims to regulate the integration of artificial intelligence tools, such as chatbots and data analysis systems, within local business operations to ensure standardized compliance across the island.

Under this new framework, businesses will be subject to oversight, administrative measures, and potential penalties for non-compliance. The specific requirements imposed on a company depend on the nature of the AI system, its use case, the company's role, and the identified level of risk. Mandatory actions include informing users when they are interacting with AI, disclosing the use of deepfakes or other synthetic content, and assessing whether their tools fall under high-risk categories defined by the legislation.
