Consumer protection authorities issue warnings for 33 unsafe products

The Cyprus Competition and Consumer Protection Service reported that 33 consumer products were identified as unsafe during the week of August 24–30, 2026. These goods were reported via the European Union’s Safety Gate, a rapid alert system for non-food items, after being detected in various EU member states. The diverse list of hazardous items includes children's toys, electrical appliances, cosmetics, clothing, footwear, motor vehicles, personal protective equipment, sports gear, and kitchenware.

The reported risks associated with these products are significant, involving fire, electric shock, chemical exposure, choking, injury, and potential impairment of vision or hearing. Specific vehicle models mentioned in the alerts include Temsa buses, which carry a fire risk, as well as Audi, Jeep, and DS Automobiles models cited for fire and injury hazards. The Road Transport Department has been designated as the supervisory authority for the motor vehicle alerts.

While the Consumer Protection Service monitors these notifications as the national point of contact, the Safety Gate system continues to function as an early warning mechanism to ensure these products are removed from circulation. Consumers are advised to remain vigilant regarding the safety status of their household items and vehicles.
