Cyprus tourism sector demonstrates resilience and market diversification

Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis announced on August 31, 2026, that a new report by Oxford Economics and TOURISE highlights Cyprus as a global model for tourism resilience. The announcement was made during an International Development Seminar held at The Landmark Hotel in Nicosia, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with the Francophone Institute for Sustainable Development.

According to the report, the Cypriot tourism sector successfully recovered from the significant loss of the Russian market in 2022 by strategically pivoting to other geographical regions. The data emphasizes positive outcomes recorded in 2024 and 2025, which allowed the sector to maintain its momentum. Koumis noted that by 2026, the country effectively returned to high-level tourism conditions, proving that resilience is a core component of the national tourism strategy.

The seminar, titled "Sustainable Tourism, Youth Employability, and Funding Mobilization," served as a platform to discuss these achievements. Government officials confirmed that the diversification of markets remains a primary focus to ensure long-term stability in the face of future global economic challenges.
