Cypriot athletes excel at the 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto

The 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, have seen significant success for the Cypriot delegation, with athletes securing multiple medals across various disciplines. Milan Trajkovic claimed a silver medal in the 110m hurdles, finishing in 13.25 seconds and equalling the Cypriot national record he set in 2017. Additionally, Philippa Fotopoulou achieved gold in the long jump with a leap of 6.59 meters, while Elena Kulichenko added a silver medal in the high jump by clearing 1.92 meters.

Gymnast Marios Georgiou continued his historic run by winning gold in the men's individual all-around with a score of 80.450 points, becoming the most decorated Cypriot athlete in the history of the Mediterranean Games with seven total medals. While other athletes like Iosif Michalis Papa and Loizos Chrysostomou participated in their respective finals, the team has pushed their overall tally to 13 medals, including five gold, five silver, and three bronze. The competition continues with further finals scheduled in gymnastics, sailing, and other sports, where Cyprus remains in contention for additional podium finishes.
