Cyprus parliament resumes legislative work after summer break

The Cypriot Parliament resumes its legislative sessions this Tuesday following the summer break, focusing on critical social and energy-related matters. The Committee on Refugees is scheduled to convene at 9:00 a.m. to discuss ongoing developments regarding missing persons. The meeting will include the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, the Presidential Commissioner, and representatives from associations for relatives of the missing, as well as disability and war prisoner organizations. Simultaneously, the Committee on Commerce will address the alignment of domestic legislation with European Union law. The discussions will prioritize promoting renewable energy sources, particularly within the transport sector, and implementing regulations for the use of sustainable fuels in aviation.

These sessions mark the start of an intensive legislative period for the new parliament. Members face a significant workload, including several pending bills and legislative proposals that were deferred earlier this year. Authorities aim to clear these outstanding issues to ensure the efficient functioning of the state as the parliamentary calendar advances through the autumn months.
