Cyprus records an average of five divorces daily according to recent statistical data

Recent statistics from the Statistical Service of Cyprus indicate that the country records approximately five divorces per day. The data highlights a fluctuating trend over the past several years, with a record high of 2,308 divorces in 2019, followed by a decline to 1,869 in 2020 during the pandemic. In 2023, there were 2,134 recorded divorces, while in 2024 the figure stood at 2,107.

Nicosia remains the district with the highest number of marital separations, reporting 891 divorces in 2023 and 794 in 2024, while the Famagusta district consistently reports the lowest numbers. Limassol follows with 555 divorces in 2023 and 575 in 2024. Most divorces occur between Cypriot nationals, and while 33 couples separated in 2024 within the same year they married, the majority of divorces involved couples who had been together for over 20 years.

Statistical analysis further reveals that marital stability correlates with family size, as couples without children are statistically more likely to separate, whereas families with more children tend to remain together longer. These findings provide a detailed overview of evolving social dynamics and marital stability trends across the island.
