Reports of aircraft flights over Nicosia lead to public concern
Residents across various districts of Nicosia, including Kaimakli, have reported a surge in sightings of passenger aircraft and helicopters in recent days. The Department of Civil Aviation has received dozens of calls from concerned citizens seeking clarification on the frequency and nature of these flights originating from the airport in Tymvou.
Charis Antoniadis, Acting Director of the Department of Civil Aviation, stated that there is no cause for alarm, describing the activity as a routine phenomenon rather than a new development. He emphasized that the flights occur strictly within the occupied areas, noting that they may appear to be over the free areas of Nicosia only due to visual perspective and distance. Furthermore, he clarified that these movements are completely unrelated to the recent shipwreck in Kyrenia.
Although officials have maintained that the situation is normal and documented no changes in flight patterns, public concern remains elevated. Authorities have indicated that there are no further updates regarding these operations, and no additional investigative actions are currently planned by the aviation department.
