Results from the 20th Mediterranean Games in Taranto

Athletes representing Cyprus and Greece participated in various track and field events during the 20th Mediterranean Games held in Taranto. On August 31, 2026, Cypriot runners Kalliopi Kountouri and Thekla Alexandrou competed in the 400m race, finishing 10th and 12th respectively, missing the final. In men's shot put, Petros Michaelides was eliminated after placing 11th with a best throw of 18.03m. Similarly, javelin throwers Christiana Ellina and Eirini-Jane Theodorou finished 12th and 13th, respectively.

Conversely, Greek athlete Rafaela Spanoudaki secured a silver medal in the 200m event with a time of 23.07 seconds, marking the second-best performance of her career. In the hammer throw, Stamatia Skarveli narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth with a distance of 66.27m, while Dimitra Gnafaki placed sixth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.35 seconds. Athletes are now shifting their focus toward upcoming international competitions, including the European Indoor Athletics Championships scheduled for next year.
