Omonia Nicosia exchanges players with Dutch clubs
Omonia Nicosia has finalized major personnel changes involving transfers to and from the Dutch Eredivisie. Dutch midfielder Luuk Brouwers is set to join the Cypriot club after bidding farewell to his former team, SC Heerenveen. Heerenveen's technical director, Johan Hansma, confirmed the transfer, stating that the move was initiated following changes in the player's situation last season. Brouwers is expected to be registered for Omonia’s Europa League squad as a replacement for Ioannis Kousoulos.
Simultaneously, Omonia confirmed the departure of 26-year-old Cypriot defender Nikolas Panagiotou, who has signed a three-year contract with FC Utrecht, with an option for an additional season. Panagiotou, who joined Omonia in 2019, spent seven years with the club, winning two league titles and two cups while accumulating 180 appearances. The defender has already completed his medical examinations in the Netherlands and will wear the number five jersey for his new side. This move represents a significant career advancement for the player, as he transitions from the Cypriot league to compete in one of Europe’s top championships.
