EuroLeague opens disciplinary proceedings against Dubai BC over Thomas Walkup transfer dispute

EuroLeague Basketball has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Dubai BC regarding the club's pursuit of Olympiacos guard Thomas Walkup. The 33-year-old player, who recorded averages of 5.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 5.7 assists during the 2025/26 season, has expressed a strong desire to leave the Piraeus-based club to join the Dubai team. This move has led to a cooling of relations between the athlete and Olympiacos, with Walkup currently absent from the team's preparations for the 2026/27 season.

The investigation was triggered by public comments from Dubai BC General Manager Dejan Kamenjasevic, who confirmed the club's interest in the player. EuroLeague officials are currently gathering documentation regarding the terms of Walkup's contract with Olympiacos to assess potential violations. The matter is now headed toward a legal resolution through the FIBA Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT).

The legal dispute is expected to see its first proceedings by September 20. The independent FIBA tribunal is slated to render initial decisions on the case by the end of October. While Olympiacos is widely considered to hold a stronger legal position in the ongoing contract battle, the professional future of the athlete remains uncertain pending the final verdict.
