Automated system error causes incorrect preschool subsidy notifications in Cyprus

On Tuesday evening, many parents in Cyprus received automated electronic notifications indicating significantly reduced preschool and nursery subsidies, leading to confusion as the calculated tuition fees appeared to be double or triple the expected amount. Fanos Kouroufexis, Senior Benefit Management Officer, clarified that the incident was caused by a technical glitch in the automated processing system during its first day of operation for the new school year.

The system, which is designed to approve applications within minutes, failed to process the data correctly, resulting in the mass distribution of inaccurate messages. Upon receiving feedback from concerned parents, authorities temporarily suspended the platform for several hours to rectify the software error. Kouroufexis has officially advised parents to disregard the erroneous messages sent during this period and confirmed that a formal press release will be issued to provide further guidance.

The authorities have reassured the public that the technical issues are being addressed to ensure the platform functions correctly for all applicants. Parents are encouraged to wait for further official communication before taking any action regarding their applications.
