AKTI research center launches 8th annual #Potavristou environmental campaign

On September 1, 2026, the AKTI Research and Training Center officially launched the 8th edition of its global environmental initiative, #Potavristou. The campaign, which was inaugurated at a green space in Platy Aglantzia, encourages citizens worldwide to collect litter from beaches, mountains, parks, and urban areas to combat plastic pollution. Participants are invited to record their findings and submit data and photos to AKTI via social media platforms using specific hashtags to contribute to citizen science efforts.

Since its inception in 2019, the initiative has evolved into a significant international movement. Historical data provided by the organization indicates that over 17,000 volunteers have participated to date, successfully clearing more than 110 tons of waste from 2,095 locations. Last year alone, 3,734 participants collected over 20 tons of garbage. AKTI utilizes the crowdsourced data for scientific analysis to extract environmental conclusions. The campaign remains active throughout the month of September, with the organization aiming to surpass previous participation levels this year.
