Two major traffic accidents reported in Limassol area on September 2
Two separate, serious traffic incidents occurred in the Limassol region on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Shortly after midnight, a 19-year-old motorcyclist was seriously injured after losing control of his bike on Nikaia Avenue in Ypsonas. The victim, who was not wearing a helmet, crashed into a sign and is now hospitalized with multiple fractures and pulmonary contusions. Following the accident, the motorcycle was removed from the scene by unknown individuals, and authorities are currently searching for the vehicle while appealing for blood donations to assist in the young man's recovery.
Separately, a 76-year-old man died in a fatal collision on the Limassol-Paphos motorway later that morning. The man had stopped his vehicle near the tunnel after a refrigerator he was transporting fell onto the road. While he was outside attempting to clear the obstacle, he was struck by a passing minibus and died at the scene. His grandson, who was traveling with him, was unharmed. The Sovereign Base Areas Police have closed the motorway to investigate the circumstances and are calling for witnesses or dashcam footage, while the driver of the minibus has been arrested for questioning.
