Larnaca municipal water authority upgrades water metering system

The Larnaca District Local Government Organization (EOAL) signed a contract on August 31, 2026, with the company NEWCYTECH DISTRIBUTIONS LTD for the procurement, installation, and maintenance of an integrated smart water metering system. This project aims to modernize the water supply network and enhance the sustainable management of water resources in the region.

The contract includes the installation of 700 smart water meters across mountain communities in Larnaca, specifically in the municipal districts of Skarinou, Vavla, Lagia, and Kato Lefkara. Installation is expected to be completed by November 2026, followed by a seven-year operation and maintenance period. This initiative is designed to improve water resource efficiency and the overall quality of consumer service.

This project represents the second large-scale smart metering initiative promoted by the Larnaca EOAL and marks the first implementation of such technology in non-urban areas across Cyprus. The development serves as part of a broader strategic framework to modernize infrastructure and transition towards more technologically advanced public utility management.
