Russia allegedly assists Iran in developing advanced supersonic cruise missiles

According to an investigation by the Financial Times, Russia has been secretly assisting Iran in the development of advanced supersonic cruise missiles. This initiative, designated as program C430L, began in 2023 and reportedly involved the transfer of strategic military technology aimed at enabling Tehran to threaten U.S. naval assets and other vessels in the Middle East.

The program was orchestrated by the state-owned Rosoboronexport and NPO Mashinostroyenia, a company currently under U.S. sanctions. Technical experts and senior engineers from NPO Mashinostroyenia, including Alexander Netargachev, Alexander Chebakov, and Yuri Prokhorchuk, reportedly traveled to Iran multiple times throughout 2023. Their mission focused on the development of ramjet propulsion technology, which allows missiles to maintain flight at supersonic speeds.

This cooperation reportedly continued during the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. The findings, based on leaked Russian correspondence, travel records, and military patent analyses, represent a significant instance of technology sharing between Moscow and Tehran. While the program’s goal is to enhance Iranian naval strike capabilities, no further legal or diplomatic consequences have been immediately announced following these revelations.
