EU coordinates response following drone attack in Leipzig attributed to Russia

The German government has officially concluded that Russia was responsible for an attempted drone attack in Leipzig, which occurred last month. European Union and NATO officials are currently coordinating a joint response, while the United States has not yet issued a formal statement on the matter.

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas labeled the incident an act of state-sponsored terrorism. During a meeting of European foreign ministers in Ireland, officials discussed increasing pressure on Moscow, including the potential implementation of 1,600 new sanctions targeting Russia’s military complex. Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys both emphasized the necessity of a robust European response, citing the growing political and security implications of Russia’s hybrid activities within the bloc.

This incident marks a significant escalation in tensions between Russia and the West. Ongoing diplomatic discussions aim to address the security threats posed by these actions, with EU officials continuing to evaluate further options to increase the political cost for Moscow regarding its military and hybrid engagements.
