Ministry of Education announces school infrastructure upgrades in Paphos

During a session of the Parliamentary Committee on Education held on September 2, 2026, Minister of Education Athena Michaelidou announced significant infrastructure developments for the Paphos district. Responding to inquiries from Committee Chairman Chrysanthos Savvides, the Minister confirmed that the Ministry will issue calls for tenders in November 2026 for several key projects aimed at modernizing the local educational environment.

The centerpiece of the announcement is the construction of the new Nikolaideio Gymnasium in Paphos city center, adjacent to the 7th Primary School of Agios Kendeas. This facility is highly anticipated, as the school has been co-housed with the Kykkos Lyceum for a decade following the demolition of its original building, causing ongoing operational issues. Additionally, the Ministry will proceed with the expansion of the 7th Primary School and the construction of new laboratory spaces at the Agios Charalambos Lyceum-TESEK in Empa.

These projects are part of a broader government effort to address the logistical and infrastructure needs of the Paphos educational community. The formal tender process scheduled for November marks a significant step forward in restoring independent facilities for affected schools, with stakeholders expressing satisfaction regarding the advancement of these long-awaited improvements.
