Cyprus achieves record medal count at Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games

Cypriot karateka Theodosia Yamouki secured the bronze medal in the +68kg Kumite category at the Mediterranean Games "Taranto 2026" on September 2, 2026. This achievement marks the 15th medal for the Cypriot delegation, officially setting a new national record for the country, surpassing the previous benchmark of 14 medals set at the Oran 2022 games.

In the men's -84kg Kumite category, Cypriot athlete Loizos Vasiliou narrowly missed a podium finish. After reaching the bronze medal bout, he faced Egypt's Youssef Badawy, ultimately suffering an 8-0 defeat.
