EU foreign ministers meet in Wicklow to discuss regional stability and Ukraine support

The informal Gymnich meeting of European Union Foreign Ministers took place on September 1-2, 2026, in County Wicklow, Ireland. Hosted by Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Helen McEntee, the event served as a platform for strategic discussions on ongoing geopolitical crises, specifically the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos represented his country, emphasizing the need for a more active EU presence in the Middle East.

The summit included participation from the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Canada, Iceland, and Norway, among others. The discussions focused on reinforcing the effectiveness of the EU's external action and maintaining a clear, unified message of support for Ukraine ahead of upcoming high-level meetings in New York. This gathering provided continuity to strategic dialogues that began during the previous Gymnich meeting held in Limassol, Cyprus, last May. Participants aimed to harmonize EU policy regarding current global challenges and enhance the bloc’s international role through improved multilateral cooperation.
