Kourion archaeological site to implement AI and 3D digital reconstructions

The Limassol Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAP Limassol), supported by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, is launching a new initiative to enhance the Kourion archaeological site through advanced digital technology. This project seeks to provide visitors with a vivid understanding of the site by utilizing three-dimensional reconstructions and artificial intelligence to restore the architectural form of both prominent and lesser-visited monuments to their former state of peak operation.

Key features of the development include the use of AI to recreate historical scenes, specifically at the 2nd-century AD ancient stadium. By simulating past athletic events, the project aims to transform the ruins into a dynamic, lifelike urban center, moving away from traditional static viewing experiences. This effort is part of a broader strategy to modernize the region’s tourism product and increase the international visibility of Cyprus's cultural heritage.

While the current focus is on the integration of these digital products, the initiative represents a significant shift toward digital storytelling. The development is intended to offer a more interactive and informative experience, allowing the public to visualize the site as it existed centuries ago rather than simply observing present-day ruins.
