French authorities uncover plot to kidnap Kylian Mbappe

The primary suspect is an 18-year-old French-Swiss national identified as Clément L., who was already incarcerated at Villepinte prison in Seine-Saint-Denis for charges related to armed robbery and pimping.

Investigations began following an attempted robbery at a luxury watch shop in Neuilly-sur-Seine in April 2026. While examining two mobile phones seized from the suspect, who used the alias "Lester Z" and communicated via Snapchat, police discovered a list containing addresses and personal details of 26 potential targets. Officials allege that the suspect continued to coordinate the criminal network's activities from within the prison facility.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full scope of the kidnapping plot and identify any potential accomplices involved in the scheme. Legal sources have confirmed that Kylian Mbappe was considered the most prominent target on the list.
