Autopsy inconclusive on death of missing 75-year-old woman

The body of 75-year-old Erato Athanasiou, who had been missing since August 23, was discovered on September 3 by forest rangers in the Paphos State Forest, in the Kallinikos area. Although the body has not yet been officially identified through DNA analysis, family members identified her clothing, and authorities are treating the discovery as the end of the eleven-day search operation that involved police, volunteers, and aerial support.

A forensic examination performed by Dr. Nikolas Charalambous at the Nicosia General Hospital confirmed that the remains do not show signs of external physical trauma or bone fractures. Given the condition of the body, the exact cause of death could not be determined during the initial autopsy. Forensic pathologists have collected samples for further histopathological and toxicological testing. The Morphou Police Directorate is continuing its investigation into the unnatural death, keeping all possibilities open while awaiting final laboratory results and official DNA confirmation.
