Russian drone strikes SBU headquarters in central Kyiv

On Friday, September 4, 2026, a Russian Shahed drone struck the headquarters of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) located on Volodymyrska Street in Kyiv, directly across from Saint Sophia Cathedral. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack, stating that the drone was specifically targeted at the office of SBU head Oleksandr Poklad.

According to the mayor of Kyiv, five people were injured in the strike. Following the incident, President Zelenskyy announced that he has ordered Poklad to prepare a significant and proportional response to the attack, with support from the Ukrainian armed forces. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the site to provide assistance to those affected, while dense black smoke was observed rising from the building shortly after the impact.
