Man shot after attacking police station in Mandra
On Friday afternoon, September 4, 2026, a 31-year-old man forced his way into the Mandra police station after initially attacking and injuring the officer on duty with a knife. Once inside the facility, the suspect continued to threaten officers while brandishing the weapon. Despite police efforts to de-escalate the situation and persuade him to surrender, the man advanced toward them, leading an officer to discharge their service weapon. The suspect was struck in the abdomen and subsequently transported to the Asklipieio Hospital in Voula, where he remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit under police guard.
The authorities have initiated legal proceedings against the 31-year-old on charges of attempted murder, service disruption, and weapons violations. A concurrent investigation has been opened into the actions of the police officer who fired the shot, as is standard procedure; however, the prosecutor has ordered the officer's release. Reports indicate that the perpetrator allegedly suffers from mental health issues. Further investigation into the exact circumstances of the event is currently ongoing.
