New academic year begins for students in the region

The 2026-2027 academic year begins this Monday for 41,280 secondary education students across 108 institutions. Teachers in the secondary sector have been preparing for the term since September 1st. The secondary education system includes 62 gymnasiums, 36 lyceums, 10 six-grade schools, and 5 evening schools, supported by approximately 7,200 general secondary educators and 890 staff members in technical and vocational training.

In the primary sector, the academic calendar follows a different schedule. Teachers are set to report on September 7th, while students are scheduled to return to classrooms on September 14th. Primary education will accommodate 52,186 students, including 8,919 first-graders, while kindergartens expect an enrollment of 14,398 children.
