Tasos Bakasetas joins APOEL following departure from Panathinaikos
Greek national team captain Tasos Bakasetas has arrived in Cyprus to finalize his transfer to APOEL Nicosia. The 32-year-old midfielder reached an agreement with the Cypriot club for a two-year contract after mutually resolving his departure from Panathinaikos. As part of the transition, Bakasetas will receive a reported 1.3 million euros in compensation from his former club to offset the difference in his salary package for the current season, which was originally set at 1.7 million euros at Panathinaikos.
The transfer process moved quickly during the first week of September 2026. Following the finalization of financial terms, the player traveled to Nicosia on the morning of September 5 to undergo medical examinations at the Archangelos training facility. This acquisition represents the eleventh new player added to the squad under the direction of coach Nikos Papadopoulos, with the club aiming to integrate the experienced international into training sessions immediately.
Bakasetas’ move follows negotiations between the two clubs and the player's representatives to ensure his release. With his arrival in Cyprus confirmed, only final procedural formalities remain before the official announcement of his signing with the blue-and-yellows.
