Tasos Bakasetas joins APOEL on a two-year contract

Greek national team captain Tasos Bakasetas has officially signed a two-year contract with APOEL Nicosia. The 33-year-old midfielder arrives in Cyprus following a two-and-a-half-year stint with Panathinaikos. The transfer was finalized on September 5, 2026, after the player underwent medical examinations and resolved his financial terms with his previous club.

Reports indicate that Panathinaikos agreed to cover approximately 1.8 million euros of Bakasetas’s 2 million euro annual salary as part of his compensation package to facilitate the move. The player’s transition was reportedly supported by national team coach Ivan Jovanovic, who ensured his continued availability for future international call-ups. Bakasetas has already begun training at the Archangelos facility and was present at the GSP Stadium to witness APOEL's recent victory against AEL. He is expected to play a leadership role as the team integrates several high-profile additions to their squad.
