Police arrest individuals in Nicosia following stolen vehicle pursuit

On Friday, September 4, 2026, around 5:00 p.m., police in Nicosia initiated a pursuit of a vehicle near Ledra Street after the driver failed to stop for inspection. Initial reports indicated that three foreign nationals were apprehended after an attempt to evade police, during which the driver allegedly tried to collide with a patrol unit, while another individual attempted to flee on foot. Subsequent investigations by authorities confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen on August 27 in the Famagusta district, and it was fitted with license plates belonging to another stolen vehicle. Furthermore, a small quantity of cannabis was found inside the car.

Following the arrests, the suspects were transferred to the Nicosia CID for further questioning. A 42-year-old man was identified as the driver and remains in custody to facilitate ongoing investigations conducted by the Omorfita police station, the Anti-Drugs Unit (YKAN), and Famagusta CID. These events were part of a series of intensified police operations across Cyprus aimed at crime prevention, which resulted in ten total arrests island-wide that night for various offenses including theft, traffic violations, and possession of stolen property.
