Police operations lead to multiple arrests and crime investigations across Cyprus

Cypriot authorities conducted a series of countrywide police operations between September 6 and September 8, 2026, aimed at preventing criminal activity and ensuring public order. During these efforts, police arrested 41 individuals for illegal residency, while subsequent operations resulted in the arrest of eight more suspects for various offenses, including drug possession, burglary, and theft. Law enforcement officers inspected hundreds of vehicles and premises, issuing hundreds of traffic citations for speeding and other violations, leading to the impounding of several vehicles.

Separately, police are investigating a string of nine burglaries in the Nicosia district, specifically in Pera Chorio Nisou and Agia Varvara, where suspects caused significant property damage and stole approximately €5,900 from commercial premises. In a fatal incident on the Limassol-Paphos highway, a man died after being struck by a bus while attempting to retrieve an object from the road. Meanwhile, in Paphos, a 46-year-old man was arrested for illegal possession of property after police discovered a large cache of tools in his home, and he has since been remanded in custody for six days. Investigations into these ongoing cases remain active.
