Israeli emergency management delegation visits Cyprus

A three-member delegation from Israel's National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA), led by Brigadier General (ret.) Itzik Bar, visited Cyprus on September 4, 2026. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the Republic of Cyprus and Israel regarding civil protection, emergency management, and crisis response strategies.

During the visit, the delegation was received by the Deputy Commander of the Cyprus Civil Defense, Theodoros Lemoniatis, who briefed them on the capabilities and functions of his agency. The discussions focused on establishing a Memorandum of Understanding and an accompanying Work Plan to formalize coordination between the two nations. Representatives also held meetings with officials from the Ministries of Interior and Defense, the National Guard, and the Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

These diplomatic engagements are part of a broader effort to enhance regional security and disaster resilience. The cooperation signals an ongoing commitment to shared preparedness protocols between the two countries, with future steps expected to include the formal signing and implementation of the proposed bilateral agreements.
