Series of serious traffic accidents occur across Cyprus

Several significant road accidents were reported across Cyprus between September 4 and September 7, 2026, resulting in multiple injuries and hospitalizations. On September 4, a three-vehicle pile-up on the Nicosia-Larnaca highway near Athienou-Kosi, triggered by a mechanical breakdown, left two women injured. The same day, a separate collision in Nicosia on Nikis Avenue involving a 79-year-old and a 19-year-old left the elderly man in critical condition and intubated in the intensive care unit.

Additional incidents occurred over the weekend. A car accident in the Pegeia area resulted in the vehicle overturning and sustaining heavy damage, though details on potential casualties were not immediately provided. On September 6, a collision between two vehicles on the Limassol-Nicosia highway near Agios Tychonas caused significant traffic congestion. Most recently, on the night of September 6, a 24-year-old motorcyclist lost control on the Ayia Thekla-Sotira road. He was initially taken to Famagusta General Hospital and later transferred to Nicosia General Hospital, where he remains in extremely critical condition. Police authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding all these accidents.
